Art & Language

The group Art & Language was founded in Coventry, England by Michael Baldwin, David Bainbridge, Terry Atkinson and Harold Hurrell around 1967. Originally the group was founded to critically respond to the mainstream modern art practices of the time.

Throughout the years, many other artists became worked with the group, with up to fifty people associated with their activities between 1968-1982. Over the years they have not only produced artworks, but journals, papers and symposiums. 

In 1986 Art &Language were nominated for the Turner Prize. Their work is held in collections all over the world, such as in the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and Tate Modern in London.
