Gordon Williams

Biography
"What I enjoyed most about printmaking was working and sharing ideas alongside alongside others in a studio setting. That, and the anticipation of the ‘reveal’ when the print emerges from the press. "

BIOGRAPHY

Gordon Williams was bron in Berwick upon Tweed, but first became fascinated by printmaking while working as a teacher of art in Greater Manchester and Yorkshire. He enjoyed the opportunity and incentive to experiment with lino, screenprinting and photography in his professional and personal practice.

In the course of study and research at Leeds Met and exposure to the particular ‘magic’ of the etching studio, he decided to pursue his practice and academic interest further.

Much of his printmaking derives from an annual overland ‘migration’ to Italy and the sketchbooks and photographs produced since 1983 of his ‘not so grand tour’.  After retirement from full time art teaching in 2007, he became a member of Edinburgh Printmakers where he have exhibited etchings, photo etchings and Toyobo prints in the annual members exhibition and the RSA Open Exhibition.
