Edinburgh Printmakers has been delighted to work with our artist in residence, writer-performer-artist gobscure since the beginning of 2021. Collaborating with our studio team, gobscure has been exploring printmaking as a form of protest and performance. Working with different printmaking techniques and formats, exploring our building inside and out and engaging our communities, this residency has aimed to challenge and disrupt. Through in-person works at Castle Mills, performances through misguided tours in mid-August, and this online viewing room, gobscure’s residency comes into fruition.

"writing liberté with lips. barely surviving a homeless hostel after our worst sectioning we accidentally discovered sergei parajanov’s film colour of pomegranates. parajanov was an incredible artist / film-maker / writer from literal geographic transcaucasia. indoeuropean languages were birthed there and stories travelled out. the soviet union imprisoned parajanov because of his bisexuality,

causing huge mental distress / trauma yet his childlike wonder couldn’t be silenced. as Future’s Venture Foundation radical independent art fund artist / disruptor in residence with Edinburgh Printmakers this new body of work in prints and performance and participation explores how we share so much with this fat-mad-bisexual-big-kid-dissident. writing liberté with lips draws on childhood wisdoms and big-kid dissent to remind folx we all need our dreams back."  gobscure
